Morning glory

This area is behind my garage and has always

been an eye sore. I laid the sand stone, scatter planted

hosta, airplane plant, rock fern and monkey grass then

filled it in with black mulch. The neighbor's old fence

looked so bad, so I freshened it up with the lattice.

I found the little white picket fence to finish it off.

The begonia is called "Dragonfly leaf".

The ivy in the basket is a smaller version of English ivy.

My fur babies have been with me every step of the way..

God has blessed me in so many ways and I want to take

care of all he has given me. When I am working with

my plants I feel so thankful for having the health to

accomplish what I do. I have to tell you, my body is

sore and crying for me to stop for a spell!!

I would like to spend it. Just an old pair of overalls with

lots of pockets, worn out sneakers a camera and

maybe a fishing pole. Don't forget the old quilt

New Zealand's Milford Track

This is a backpak hiking trail in

New Zealand
Once described as the finest walks in the world,

the Milford Track is one of New Zealand's most popular

walks, with approximately 14000 people completing

the Milford track each year.

The Milford Track is in the heart of Fiordland

National Park, a World Heritage Area, also the wildest,

wettest and most isolated part of New Zealand.

Everything about this area is dramatic and awesome.

It was fashioned by massive uplifts of rock 2 million years ago, and

moulded by water in all its forms, ice,snow, rain, glaciers,

waterfalls, rivers and lakes.

I have had several people ask me which country that I might favor. As of now I think Wales is on top. I would love to spend several days just hiking through the beautiful country side. Thank you all for stopping by for the visit and sharing the beauty that God created worldwide for us to enjoy. I am reading "The Highlander & His Lady, by Lisa Samson.

The story starts in 1743 at the Bridgend, a village outside

Of Perth, Scotland.

I have become so intrigued with the author and her

description of the Highlands that I just had to share

the beauty. The history of Scotland is wonderfully

written in this book. Scotland has suffered great tragedy

in it's history.

Greenland is the largest island in the world and the vast majority

of it lies above the Artic Circle. It's southern tip shares the

same latitude as Oslo and the British Shetland Isles.

By contrast, the East Coast of Greenland is very remote and wild,

and its ruggedness and isolation have a direct bearing on how one

finds it today. To the west, the Inland Ice bars any overland connection to the

populous and developed west coast.

To the east and out to the sea the East Greenland Current flows

along the entire coast, dragging vast quantities of icebergs and dense Polar ice

with it, effectively blocking access to all but the most determined or

lucky seafarers, rendering it an unattractive prospect to Western colonisers and

delaying their arrival until very recently. For these reasons East Greenland

remains undeveloped and populated by only 3,000 within a handful

and traditions has persisted here. Its Isolation is such that other

Greenlanders put it to the back of their minds and name it "Tunu" -

The land at the back.

it was amazing watching the creation come to life.

to see sea-lions and myriad seabirds.

The tocan is found in the wild nowhere else in the world. it's huge beak,

They are members of the parrot family.

Piranha

most terrifying fish. Up to 60 centimetres long,

piranhas hunt in shoals, or packs, and can kill cattle

or humans and strip the flesh from their bones

in a few minutes.

You wouldn't want one of these in your fish tank!

Jaguar
Weighing up to 90 kilograms and measuring up to 75 centimetres

at the shoulder. The Jaguar is the largest member

of the cat family outside Asia and Africa.

Giant Horned Frog

The rainforest atmosphere is so damp that a wide

variety of frogs can thrive without living close to rivers

or streams. The huge horned frog is found only in The Amazon forest .

Anaconda
An Anaconda at rest.

When it is hungry, it will uncoil itself

and lie still in the water with only its

eyes above the surface, waiting for prey.

Many stories are told about anacondas

attacking fishermen, but it is rare for

anacondas to attack humans unless

they are being directly assualted or

agitated.

The Amazon rainforest is the home of over 300 species of mammals,

thousands of freshwater fish, tens of thousands of trees

and nearly a hundred thousand other plant species.

Also there are so many species of insects that

experts agree they will not find them all!

Some say it is 20,000. Others say it is nearer to millions!

New species of wildlife are still being discovered!

Bonnets aren't they beautiful.

I remember as a small child at my Grandparents farm,

having to wear a sunbonnet when I went to the fields with

my Grandfather. Oh, how I fussed. I wore it but didn't like

it. My Grandmother always told me that I would get a

heat stroke if I didn't wear it. After my Grandfather and

I would be out of sight of the house I would always ask him,

"Papa would I really"? and he would always say. "Hush now

and just keep it on your head, It makes Mama happy."

Well I never did get a heat stroke, so I guess they work

Last Saturday's project - raised herb garden

After tugging home 12 bags of top soil, a bag

of cow manure and a bag of organic humas, and 4 6x6

treated cedar boards I went to work.

I managed to get the little screws all tightened up.

After getting everything level, I placed the black paper
to hopefully stop the weeds from crowding all my new
babies.

I planted peppers, rosemary, cilantro, dill, chives, parsley & basil.
The things girls can do.

Aprons,You just have to love them

My daughter gave me this one.

I love to wear it with jeans or a denim skirt

She also gave me this one with the roosters.

This one belonged to my Mother and
she wore it every day.

1940's Hostess apron

What a wonderful pattern.

I don't think our young generation know

what an apron is.

The principal use of Grandma's apron was to protect the

dress underneath, because she only had a few, it was easier to

wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but

along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot

pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion

was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying

eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be

finished in the warming oven.

When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places

for shy kids.

And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it

around her arms.

Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent

over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in

that apron.

From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the

peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.

In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had

fallen from the trees.

When unexpected company drove up the road, it was

surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a

matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the

porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to

come in from the fields to dinner.

Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the

window sill to cool.

The new generation would go crazy now trying to figure out

how many germs was on that apron.

I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron!

This is my winter haven of escape.

I love my room and at times don't want to

This wonderful waterfall is in the court yard

across the street from the hotel we stayed in.

At lunch time we would head to the local

deli, pick up a delightful lunch and enjoy

every crumb listening to the peaceful water.

Memories of a wonderful vacation. My Granddaughter had the opportunity of a lifetime.

She worked with the Rockets for a week at Radio City Music Hall. While she was dancing her legs off, my daughter and I spent the week, walking our legs off. We were up at the crack of dawn and didn't go to bed until after midnight most nights.
It was a wonderful experience. The two highlights of the trip was watching her dance on stage at RCM, and going to see "Phantom Of the Opera" What a glorious time the three of us had.

Poop scoop of the day

DOGS...DOGS...DOGS.. You've just gotta love them, so I continue to tell myself. This is a true story...I am one of the fortunate people that can take lunch time at home. My office is only a 7 min. drive from my home. As I opened my front door today at lunch time, two very unhappy little dogs greeted me. Millie, the baby had a terrible upset stomach and was covered with poop. I could tell that Maggie (the older one) must have tried to help her, because her front legs and chest were covered with the baby's poop. Needless to say, I spent my lunch time cleaning up the best I could until evening. I sprayed both dogs with water to get the bulk off, gathered up throw rugs, crawled around on hands and knees to clean all the little puddles of poop off the hardwood floor, and boy did I spray lots of febreze into the air. Oh my gosh! How did she get it on the wall? As I was about to finish and scrub up, (Just vision, I am still crawling around on all four legs as you might say) and my hair continued to fall in my face, I was getting a little irritated so I positioned my fingers to push it back. To late, my fingers were already in a rapid forward motion. Oh Lordy, as they passed my nose I could smell it, again to late. Yes, I jumped up and ran to the bathroom and had to spray down the front top of my hair to remove the clot of poop that was stuck there. No time to use the dryer, dried it the best I could with a towel. Made sure the babies were okay, grabbed an apple and a muffin and back to work I hurried. I think the smell lingered in my sinuses for most of the day and I was self-conscious of still having the poop on me, and boy was I praying that others couldn't smell what my sinuses were allowing me to smell. Returning home for the evening, both babies were doing well and had forgotten about the perils of our lunchtime madness. Had a very busy evening washing away the last remnants of the earlier noontime disaster. Both babies received a very good scrub. The night ended with two little babies curled up close to their mommy and producing some very pleasant little ZZZZZZZ"s.. Have a blessed uneventful day!!!!!!

Hand quilted christmas tree

My daughter is preparing for a wedding shower for her future daughter-in-law and ask to borrow a few things.

Well, all of the few things were packed away in the garage.

I started dragging down several boxes and come across the beautifully quilted Christmas tree with collector buttons placed as decorations....It brought tears to both our eyes remembering the beautiful lady that made it for me over 20 years ago. My Mother and her Nana. She is now living amongst the angels. I thought it was lost forever, but, I had just misplaced it in all my moves over the last 12 years. Somehow it sustained well. No damage, not even dirty. The crystal Victorian lamp was tucked away with it. Well, it is my daughter's responsibility now.

She received several gifts from my boxes in the garage. I don't have to keep up with them now.

If I need something, I will just drive to her house and borrow it.

I would like to introduce you to my granddaughter. She has been dancing since she was 2. She is in her second year of college now. Today 2-07-09 is her birthday "Happy Birthday Princess". She and her brother the Captain are the loves of my life.

Aunt Bee

This is my wonderful Aunt Bee the Bear. I visited with her on several occasions this past spring and summer. I wanted to bring her home with me but her price tag just didn't fit into my budget. Each time I went to the store where she was living, I just had to go by and visit with her.

Early one Saturday morning the store manager was standing beside her and writing something on her tag, well I hung back and watched until he walked away. Low and behold he had changed her price to a price that fit well into my budget perfectly. I was so excited that I carefully (she is heavy) placed her on a cart and with great pride strolled to the check out counter. She is guarding the arbor that houses my very new wisteria. My Grandmother told me that "Patience is a Virtue of a Wise Woman".

The sweet smells of rosemary

Rosemary, rosemary, it has to be one of my favorite herbs. From everthing I read, this wonderful aromatic evergreen originated in the Mediterranean and has adapted well all over the world. This wonderful plant is a member of the mint family and grows as an evergreen shrub. The Latin name is (rosmarinus) and means "dew of the sea," I guess it is a reference to its Mediterranean roots. It is a welcome culinary seasoning. I also find it a great stress reliever. Just drag your hand across a stem of the leaves on a stressful day. It will leave a little oil on the palm of your hand so you can enjoy its fragrance, sometimes until you wash your hands. I have read in several articles that rosemary is good for the following (only a few) migraines, anxiety, depression, insomnia and it goes on an on. A little history about the three mallards. Spring of 2007 the female laid an egg in the monkey grass under the pecan tree, she never sat on it, so it never hatched. Early 2008 the three started coming back to my yard early every morning.. I started feeding them. Then they started flying in in the late afternoon, so I would feed them again. On my way home in the evening I would drive by the pond where they would nest at night, and I swear they flew in home behind me. If I didn't feed them immediately on arriving at home, they would waddle and quack and get on my porch. They left me in the fall and I hope they will return again in the spring.
